Why We Upgraded Our Wood Door to a Sleeker Steel Model

Wayne Bailey May 25, 2024

Our house had the original wood garage door dating back to when it was first built in the 1990s. While the worn wood gave our home some classic curb appeal, my wife and I felt it was time for a change. The door was looking pretty tired and weathered after nearly 50 years of sun, rain, and snow. A Garage Door Replacement in Glen Allen seemed like a long overdue upgrade that could really refresh the look of our home.

Choosing A Sleek Steel Model

When researching new door options, a smooth black steel panel door really caught our eye. It had clean lines for a more contemporary aesthetic compared to the outdated raised panel wood design. Best of all, steel doors offer enhanced insulation, strength and security over wood. No more drafts or warping panels to deal with. We met with a local garage door company and had them come out to take exact measurements of the existing opening. Within a couple weeks our spiffy new door was installed.

Smooth As Butter Operation

One of the things we love most about the upgrade is just how smoothly and quietly it operates now. The old wood door had gotten loud and creaky over the years. The steel panels are lighter weight so they glide up with ease, guided by precision rolling tracks and balanced springs. It no longer feels like we’re cranking open a rusty livestock gate. Just a push of the wall button and the door smoothly rolls up with no effort. Talk about a night and day difference!

Low Maintenance Wonders

Another perk is that steel doors require virtually no maintenance. No more yearly touch ups of peeling paint or sealing of wood grain. Fade, dent or scratch resistant, it will keep that just installed look for decades to come. No more panels swelling in humidity or cracking in cold. Best of all, if a panel does get damaged, replacements are quick and affordable versus costly wood repairs. Just power wash it clean as needed. Between the reduced maintenance and increased lifespan, it will more than pay for itself in the long run.

A Fresh First Impression

Most impressive is just how much upgrading to the sleek new steel door refreshed the overall curb appeal and first impression of our home. Where the wood door looked dated, this contemporary look feels polished and tailored. It’s the perfect finishing touch to tie the outside together and match the more updated style of our interior renovations. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to invest in a “Garage Door Replacement in Glen Allen.” It’s easy to see why this affordable upgrade can really make such a dramatic difference!
